Learn how to wind a bobbin (and what bobbin is, if you don't already know), thread your machine, determine which needle to use for your project, set up various stitches, use the attachments and care for your machine.
Class schedule:
(These classes are for children ages 8-14; parents may sit in.)
July 15 -- Me and My Sewing Machine. (Materials list: Your machine, a spool of thread, small scissors, bobbin, scrap fabric to practice stiches on.)
July 22 -- First Projects - Drawstring Bag. Turn an ordinary piece of fabric into a fabulous and useful bag. Learn about fabric layout and cutting, straight and fancy stitches, turning, tailor's chalk and fabric choices. (Materials list: Your machine, two fat quarters of coordinating fabric, matching thread, sweing scissors or rolling blade, pins and a pin cushion.)
July 29 -- Zip it Up - Small Bag. Learn all about zippers while making a small bag to hold whatever you want. With this slightly more advanced project, you'll learn how to install a zipper, line a bag, turn your project, and top stitch. We'll also talk about shortening zippers, lengthening zippers and choosing the right zipper for the job. (Materials list: Your machine, 1/4 yard of main fabric, 1/4 yard of main fabric, 1/4 yard of lining fabric, matching thread, 7-inch coordinating zipper, sewing scissors or rolling blade, pins and a pin cushion.)
(The following classes are for adults with some sewing machine experience.)
Aug. 5 -- Zip it Up - Small Zipper Pouch. Make a fully lined zipper pouch. Once you have the techniques down, you can make them in any size and shape you like. They make great gifts, and you'll want to make plenty to have on hand. (Materials list: Your machine, 2 fat quarters of coordinating fabric, matching thread, sewing scissors or rolling blade, pins, a pin cushion and a 7-inch coordinating zipper.)
Aug. 12 -- Messenger Bag. Turn an ordinary piece of fabric into a fabulous and useful bag. With this slightly more advanced project you will make a fully lined bag with an interior pocket. All supplies will be provided to help you concentrate on the technique -- then take the pattern and go wild on your next project.
