U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden holds a special place in Elvis Presley lore. It's where the King of Rock'n'Roll met his future wife, Priscilla, during his time as a U.S. Soldier assigned to Ray Barracks in Friedberg.
Elvis' legacy is celebrated annually at the European Elvis Festival in Bad Nauheim, where Elvis lived during his time in the service overseas. The heart of the festival is a musical tribute contest -- and this year a singer from USAG Wiesbaden will have a chance to compete in the competition.
MWR invites community members to cast their vote during the Forever Elvis Tribute Contest Finale at the Wiesbaden Entertainment Center on July 18. The event will feature door prizes, free finger foods (as long as they last) and entertainment by Senior DJ.
The first round of the competition will take place on Facebook through July 13 (singers are asked to post an up-to 30-second video of themselves performing their favorite Elvis song).
The winner will go on to represent the garrison at the European Elvis Festival Music Contest on Aug. 18. The winner will also receive a $100 MWR gift card and a one night's stay at the luxurious Dolce Hotel in Bad Nauheim on the night of the competition.
Cost
Free to enter. Please note: Because this event will be held in the WEC Lounge, attendees must be age 18 or older.
