"Back to Your Future" 2023 Back to School Week

U.S. Army Garrison Wiesbaden has a full slate of back-to-school events planned to celebrate the start of the 2023-2024 School Year. With the theme "Back to Your Future," the week-long celebration includes movies, golf, church services, an Armed Forces Entertainment performance by the bubbly pop trio Echosmith and more (CLICK HERE to read the press release).

Calendar of Events:

• Aug. 14 -- Free Movie Day: "Back to the Future" at the Taunus Theater at 4 p.m.; "Meet the Robinsons" at Wiesbaden Elementary School, 4 p.m.
• Aug. 15 -- Library Day: Parent-To Student Activity at the Wiesbaden Library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• Aug. 16 -- Main Event: View a DeLorean car from the "Back to the Future" movie franchise; pick up a wealth of information from some 50 information booths; enjoy live music, games and food (available for purchase) from 2-6 p.m. at the Hainerberg Exchange Park (between the Exchange and the Middle School). There will also be a Dads Joke Competition. Here are the rules: 1) Bring 30 clean jokes on index cards, one joke per card; 2) Jokes must be clean, pre-approved by MC; 3) Matches are one-on-one. Players sit across from each other in provided camping chairs. Take turns telling one joke to each other. When one finishes you have 10 seconds to start joke. 4) First one to laugh is out. If no one laughs after five jokes (or 10 depending on number of participants) each on site Judge will determine who came closest to laughing (giggle, cracked smile, covered mouth, looked away, etc). • Aug. 17 -- "Driver's Ed:" Rheinblick Golf Course hosts a "Driver's Ed" event for students and parents. Free use of clubs and two free baskets of balls are aimed at helping "tee-off" the new school year from noon to 6 p.m.
• Aug. 18 -- "They're Baaack!:" The Wiesbaden Entertainment Center Lounge hosts a back-to-school Teacher Appreciation Social from 4-6 p.m. It will include free hors d'oeuvres, entertainment and a classic car ride. Drinks and food will be for sale.
• Aug. 19 -- Echosmith Live in Concert: Armed Forces Entertainment brings the bubbly, pop group Echosmith to the Wiesbaden Sports and Fitness Center for a performance at 6:30 p.m. and meet-and-greet following the show. (CLICK HERE for more details.)
• Aug. 20 -- Chapel Services: The Hainerberg and Clay Chapels will have special services to mark the start of the new school year. These include a Catholic Mass at 9 a.m. and a Protestant Service at 11 a.m. at the Hainerberg Chapel; a Protestant Service at 11 a.m. and a Gospel Service at 1 p.m. at the Clay Chapel.

• Aug. 17 -- Wiesbaden Middle School New Student Orientation at 11 a.m.

• Aug. 18 -- Aukamm Elementary School Meet-and-Greet 9:30-10:30 a.m.; Wiesbaden Elementary School Kindergarten Orientation 11 a.m. to noon; Wiesbaden High School Ninth Grade/New Student Orientation 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; WAH Meet and Greet 1-3 p.m.
